Social Skills for Kids – Group Therapy

Playing and Learning to Socialise (PALS) Group Social Skills Program for Preschool Aged Children

The program is designed to help preschool children develop a range of social behaviours that will help them develop friendships and get along with others. These social skills are taught through storytelling, songs, games, role-play and social activities.

The program consists of ten units, each one focusing on a particular skill. One skill builds on another so that the program gradually progresses to the more complex skills required for competent social interaction.

During the PALS program your child will learn to:

1. Greet others
2. Take turns: talking and listening
3. Take turns in play
4. Share
5. Ask for help
6. Identify their feelings
7. Empathy
8. Overcome fear and anxiety
9. Manage frustration
10. Calm down and speak up

PALS social skills groups will be running from 10am-12pm on January 4^th, 11^th, 13^th, 18^th and 20^th

‘Talkabout’ Group Social Skills Program for School Aged Children

The program is designed by “Alex Kelly” developer of the ‘Talkabout resources’ to help children, young people and adults to develop a solid understanding of social behaviours that will help them to develop friendships. These skills will be taught through games, role-play, video modelling and social activities.

The program consists of 6 units, each one focusing on a particular skill. One skill builds on another so that the program gradually progresses to the more complex skills required for competent social interaction.

The six units targeted in the ‘Talkabout’ Social Skills Program are:

1. Talkabout me and you
2. Talkabout communication
3. Talkabout body language
4. Talkabout the way we talk
5. Talkabout conversations
6. Talkabout assertiveness

Registrations are now open for our intensive Talkabout social skills group program running in the January School Holidays from 1-3pm on January 4th, 11th, 13th, 18th and 20th.

small TALK speech therapy Pre Kindy Class

The small TALK speech therapy Pre Kindy Class helps children prepare for their transition to school. Children’s communication and social skills will be strengthened as a result of participating in the class. These skills will be taught through whole group, small group and individual tasks and will involve games, table top and floor based activities utilising paper based and technology based tasks.

During Pre Kindy Class, your child will learn to:

• Follow a visual schedule
• Follow directions
• Attend to tasks
• Remain seated
• Share news
• Participate in small group activities
• Communicate in the classroom
• Identify and name the days of the week
• Greet others
• Answer “wh” questions
• Understand early phonics
• Identify rhyme
• Identify letter sounds
• Visually discriminate between letters and words
